That
government should not give help subsidy to people who choose unhealthy
lifestyle
Many people these days prefer to live in an
unhealthy lifestyle than living in a healthy lifestyle. In America, 6 out of 10
people prefer more to unhealthy lifestyle (healthday.usnews.com). Some people
also think that unhealthy lifestyle is better and some people also forget about
the risks of choosing unhealthy lifestyle. If you happen to choose unhealthy
lifestyle, the benefits are that you can eat delicious junk food, drink much
alcohol, or maybe consuming drugs. But there are also costs that are getting
obesity or diabetes, have some liver problems, and being a hopeless drug addict
that will lead to a divorce in marriage or being arrested. Even though unhealthy
lifestyle could be better, but the costs are really bad.
You can tell whether someone’s living in an unhealthy lifestyle or not
by their habits. If someone’s an alcoholic, drug addict, eats junk food a lot,
never exercises, and never clean their bodies including taking a bath, you can
say that he’s living in an unhealthy lifestyle (mensfitness.com). Unhealthy
lifestyles doesn’t only give costs to yourself. People might also get bad
effects from your unhealthy lifestyle (betterhealth.vic.gov.au). But actually,
the costs that they get or other people gets is actually their own fault. If
they got a disease or problems, why should the government care about them? It
is still their fault choosing unhealthy lifestyle, even though they have rights
to choose.
As I have mentioned before, about the costs
and benefits of unhealthy lifestyle, you can see that the costs are really bad
and the benefit isn’t that good. The costs doesn’t always give you disease,
remembering the word unhealthy, but also financial problems and problems at
school or marriage, because other meanings of unhealthy are not only bad
health, but also morally bad, harmful, or contaminating, and also dangerous and
risky (dictionary.com) so unhealthy lifestyle can also mean habits that are
morally bad, harmful, etc.
Now, also
about the costs and benefit, I have also mentioned about what unhealthy means
and what problems they can have, which are financial problems, problems at
school, marriage, or justice, and also health problems. The costs aren’t really
that bad when you only see someone mentioning it. But believe me, you don’t
wan’t those things happen to you. So don’t under estimate obesity. This woman,
Kenlie Tiggeman, wasn’t allowed to fly by the Southwest gate agent in New
Orleans because she was ‘too fat to fly’ (odee.com).
Financial problems can also happen
because of choosing unhealthy lifestyle for living. Smoking is one of unhealthy
lifestyle that can cause financial problems. The price of cigarettes now in Indonesia
is around RP 12.000 each box or around 1 US Dollar. For some people, 1 box each
day isn’t enough. The average number of cigarettes smokers in the Great Britain
spend each day is 45 (ash.org.uk). each box of cigarettes contains of 12 pieces
of cigarettes. So 45 cigarettes a day is 4 boxes of cigarettes or 4 dollar
each day. Don’t forget the matches and ashtray. 4 dollar each day means 120
dollars a month or RP 1.560.000. that’s a lot of money.
That’s only the bad effects for yourself.
Remember, other people can also get the bad effect. 30% of the population in
America is an alcoholic (newsweek.com). And you know that too much alcohol can
meke you drunk. When you’re drunk you don’t know what you’re doing. So, it’s
possible that you might kill someone while you’re drunk, like what happens with
Ethan Couch who killed 4 people while he’s drunk (The Washington Post).
So in conclusion, the reason why government
should not give help subsidy to people who chooses unhealthy lifestyle is
because if they have problems because of unhealthy lifestyle, it’s their own
fault and there’s no reason why the government should care about them. Besides,
government have a lot bigger problems to think of.
